Craven County, North Carolina PLC

The Friday Institute's Professional Learning team brought me in to help consult, facilitate the Craven County PLC, and design learning guides that cohort members can use to teach their colleagues some of the lessons we worked through throughout our time together.

This targeted support focused on school improvement began with the following steps:

1. Elementary and middle school network communities build capacity within each school through ongoing professional learning.

2. We met with District Office contacts to understand their schools’ needs. From this, we identified eight (8) schools that needed assistance.

3. We interviewed each of the principals at the identified eight (8) schools and gathered information about each school.

4. We met again with the District Office contacts and proposed a learning plan.

5. Met with the principals to lay out the plan, make adjustments & set training dates.

Following these steps, participants attended school teams comprised of principals and 6-7 school teacher leaders.

• Five (5) workshops for the elementary cohort 

• Five (5) workshops for the middle school cohort

Upon completion, 100% of the cohort participants said they learned strategies they would use in their classroom, and we had lots of feedback. Here are a few quotes:
